I have just spent a fabulous week with my nearest and dearest, celebrating Christmas in true Cadgwith style with lots of catching up to do as we haven’t seen each other for such a long time.
Christmas Day was grey but very mild and the Christmas Day Swim is always a great opportunity to catch up with local friends – I would participate but someone has to stay with Poppydog!
This is always followed by a couple of drinks in the pub before stanking up the road to our cottage for a monstrous Christmas Lunch – easily my favourite meal of the year and one which I always over eat! After the Queen’s Speech, presents and very idle chatter it is soon 9pm and we are all surreptitiously looking at the clock and deciding if we can reasonably retire for the evening!
Boxing Day this year was spent at my future daughter-in-law’s parents home, who bring a whole new level to the word ‘hospitality’! After we were fed and watered (of the fizz, wine and gin variety) we happily discussed everything from weddings to the world plastic crisis before the good food, drink and company again got the better of us and it was time to hit the hay!
After this, the rest of the week seemed to run away from us and all too soon we were packing up, bidding fond farewells and heading off our separate ways again – me only a mile up the road for the time being, but my daughter will ultimately be heading back to her life in Vancouver, after a brief stay near London catching up with her friends.
Until next year ‘good health, much happiness, great adventures and many more tales to tell’.
