Thursday 5th November 2026 – moving up and inland to Assisi….

After a very peaceful night it was nice to wake up to some sunshine and a bit of warmth – may be our extended summer isn’t over just yet!

By just after 10 we were on the road again, heading up the coast to Civitnova Marche about 75 miles north of here. We opted not to take the toll motorway which with hindsight turned into a mistake. We had hoped that the coastal road would be scenic with the opportunity to pull over every now and then for some spectacular seaviews. In reality it was hours driving through the urban sprawl which is this stretch of coastline, stop starting in traffic, through countless traffic lights and so many roundabouts with rarely a glimpse of the sea and always the railway line inbetween. After an hour and half of this we pulled into a car park with the idea of stretching our legs and taking a stroll down to the seafront, however there were a couple of lads hanging about in the car park, possibly just doing that but it didn’t feel wise taking the chance – I am still probably a little over sensitive after yesterdays drive but better safe than sorry, so we pressed on.

Eventually we turned inland onto the SS77 (nothing like the SS16) and almost instantly the scenery changed and we were driving along a relatively quiet dual carriageway though a beautiful autumnal multicoloured forest, in and out of tunnels as we made our way towards Assisi and our campsite for the next couple of nights.

There wasn’t really an opportunity to stop and take any photos though the absence of any umbrellas and in fact any roadside rubbish made for a much more pleasant drive.

Arriving at Green Village Assisi we were soon settled (with only 3 other vans) on this large and spacious pine tree covered site but had to content ourselves with a wander around the site as there is no footpath along the not particularly busy but fast road outside….

A gap in the hedgerow enabled us to get our first glimpse of Assisi, which we look forward to exploring tomorrow….
