A few spots of rain over night but a lovely sunny day with a fair breeze keeping the day at a lovely temperature.

Today we set off on the short drive to Selsey and soon left the traffic jams that seem to be a constant in and around Bognor, behind. We drove as far as the road would take us through Selsey towards Selsey Bill and found plenty of free parking at the end of the road and after a short walk voila Selsey Bill and it’s small pebble beach….

Heading eastwards we rounded the headland and picked up the small walkway along the top of East Beach….

It was absolutely beautiful, raw and deserted, how a wild pebble beach should be, the properties lucky enough to have far reaching views are set back a bit behind a strip of colourful wild noman’s land….

With the small fishing flotilla bobbing about on the turquoise waters and a few kayaks and light craft securely chained against the sea wall an absolute delight. We walked to the very end of the footpath to see Church Norton Beach and Spit in the distance, unfortunately a few miles too far for us to cover today….

But we shall definitely be back to walk this some other time, along with the rest of this West Sussex coastline. The contrast between today’s walk and yesterdays trip to Brighton is immeasurable and guess which we would happily do again?

Randomly we spotted this plaque….

To think that we were looking at the remnants of Mulberry Harbour just last Autumn and to think that they originated from here. I met a gentleman whilst walking who said that his father remembered that during WWII the whole area was a hive of military activity up until the day before D-Day and then suddenly the area was deserted and that of course at the time none of the residents had any idea what was going on until much later – surreal.

Spotted these amazing sea thistles nearly the size of a child’s small football – what beauties…

We have enjoyed this walk so much and spent more time just sea watching and chatting to the locals that my plans to continue along the coast to the Witterings were abandoned in favour of wandering back and beyond the way we came to see West Beach….

Facing into the prevailing weather this beach is a bit more dramatic but apparently with some sand exposed at lower tides and distant view of the Isle of Wight….

A little further along and just a quick look at Windmill Beach (the windmill is inland a bit and just a bit of white sail visible on the horizon to the right….

On our way back we drove through the centre of the old part of Selsey, a pretty collection of independant shops, flint stone houses, some thatched and this attractive church….

So far removed from the busyness of the more built up towns along this coast – a real tonic that has encouraged me to want to come back and complete this section of the UK coastline.

After another hot, let’s just hang around the site day yesterday the breeze was up quite a bit today cooling things down so after lunch we ventured down to the seafront again, this time heading west along the promenade above Bognor Regis Beach, beyond the Pier….

Leaving the main town of Bognor behind and arriving in the small coastal and rather upmarket village of Aldwick with it’s beach hut lined section of pebble and low tide sand beach….

And though at this point the promenade ended and the coastal road left the beach to wind around Aldwick, we walked a short way along the pebbles to catch a glimpse of Dark Lane Beach a little further west….

The going is way too tough along the pebbles and we have had a nice good walk, which is what we set out to do, so we made our way back across town to site.

Just a slight bit cooler today with a little light cloud around and definitely more breeze so leaving it until four we ventured down the couple of miles through Bognor Regis via The Bell Tower in Hotham Park….

Walking along the promenade to the East beyond the massive Butlins Holiday Park is Felpham Beach….

And then turning back on ourselves we wandered along the promenade above Bognor Regis Beach towards the Pier and centre of town….

We wandered a little way out onto the Pier to enjoy lovely views of the beach to the east and west with a fine bit of low tide sand exposed….

A little further along a small number of small fishing boats hauled up high on the pebbles out of the tides way….

At this point we made our way back through the centre of town with the highpoints being Poundland, Iceland and New Look and suffice to say that if you are in need of a 10+ year old BMW with a questionable paint job and no exhaust then Bognor is your kind of place.

It is not ours and so we made a hasty return along the footpath, alongside the busy dual carriageway that runs from the centre out through an extensive but not glamorous retail park to the leafy oasis that is the campsite.
