The surf is up on Lake Coniston….

It was indeed too good to last! Today a grey day greeted us and with forecast winds and rain later we decided to get out and enjoy the greyness whilst it lasted. We walked down to the Lake and at Coniston watched a group of children venture out sailing, not in the slightest perturbed at the rain that was now falling or the fact that the previously glass like lake was beginning to look a bit choppy!

From here we continued on to the north end of the lake and spent a little time here on the beach.

Just around the top of the lake is a jetty which marks the end of this section of footpath and our turning point.

And then, how kind – the rain picked up pace, with proper big dobs falling to keep us company all the way back!

5.5 mile walk and very wet!

Two thoughts of the day:

We came to the Lakes to experience some proper snow, instead we have had beautiful warm sunshine and now big dobs of rain!

One of the downsides of heavy rain on a tree covered site – the noise!!
