Yet another cracking day dawned though if the weatherman is to be believed – the last for a while! Today we drove down to Skelwith Bridge and found a bit of roadside parking, before taking the popular Cumbria Way along the riverside to Elterwater.
After a short while the lake Elterwater comes into view.
With stunning views all around and this lovely sunshine – what a day.
Plenty of little spots for Poppydog to have a splash around.
As we arrived at the end of the lake, the tiny village of Elterwater, a pub, cafe, bowling club and not a lot else, we continued along the tree lined footpath, following the Great Langdale Beck up to the village of Church Stile.
Here we found our own little beach with stones – say no more!
After a suitable break we took the much less popular circular route up above the lake, via Colwith, back to Skelwith catching sight of a couple of deer skipping across the valley (too far away to take a proper photo).
With a close up look at Skelwith Force Waterfall.
A very enjoyable 7 mile walk.
Two thoughts of the day:
In just five weeks my NT membership (thanks Dad) has paid for itself in car parking alone – the average here seems to be about £4 for two hours!
It is even more expensive to pee here in The Lakes – 30p – pity there aren’t more NT loos!
