Carew Castle and tidal Mill….

Wet again through the night, but dried up quite quickly this morning and though mostly cloudy the sun made an appearance as the day progressed. We didn’t wish to venture far today, so just popped a couple of miles down the road to Carew Castle.

The scenic walk around the castle wasn’t very long so we veered off on our own little detour and mooched along the lanes and across fields for a bit and found a pretty fast flowing stream for Poppydog to have a play in before rejoining the walk as it tracked around a huge mill pond (which at low tide is literally just mud!) with views of the castle all the while.

The millpond causeway proved to be a popular picnic spot, with the old mill itself now a museum with nearby buildings offering refreshments.

We didn’t go into the castle (the car park was free the castle wasn’t!) but it made for a very nice afternoons walk, before we headed into Narberth to do a bit of shopping, ahead of moving on tomorrow.

Two thoughts of the day:

Castles don’t really do it for me, I’m more of a folly with a view kind of person!

We are going to miss the peacefulness of this site, it has been a perfect hideaway for the school holidays but centrally located to visit the South Pembrokeshire coast.
